OTTAWA, ON, August 31, 2012 – The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) has unveiled its twenty-three man roster for the ‘Duel in Denver’, an international exhibition game against the US Men’s National Team scheduled for Saturday, September 8 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado at 7pm.
The Colorado Mammoth has four players on Team Canada: 2012 National Lacrosse League MVP John Grant Jr., 2012 National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year Adam Jones, Dan Coates and Jordan McBride. The Denver Outlaws have three players on Team Canada: Mark Matthews, Jordan McBride and Curtis Dixon.
Three current University of Denver lacrosse players (Jeremy Noble, Cameron Flint and Wesley Berg) and two Pioneer alumni (Mark Matthews and Geoff Snider) will represent Canada.
Snider was the MVP of the 2006 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, leading Canada to gold over the US. Four years later, the Americans avenged the loss, defeating the Canadians and claiming the gold in the 2010 FIL world championship final. Given the history, this exhibition game as well as the entire 2014 championship are sure to be competitive and fierce competitions between the countries.
“This game is part of our preparation for the 2014 Championships in Denver,” said Team Canada head coach, Randy Mearns, who is also the head coach of the Canisius College Griffins. “We are excited to see how some of our younger guys compete at this high level.”
